For example, selecting either the 'New File..' or 'New Project..' menu items from the 'File' menu does nothing. The solution is to run NetBeans with JDK 8. The first step in the process is to make sure you are no longer running NetBeans, so select the 'Quit NetBeans' menu item from the 'NetBeans' menu.
